As a gamer dad, I could appreciate how helpful a well-designed video game is in fostering my son’s creativity and curiosity. So with that in mind, I tracked down a copy of Diego`s Dinosaur Adventure for him, much to his delight. As far as I could remember, my son had always been fascinated by lizards. I counted it as a blessing, so I took every step to nurture his interest. Initially, I thought that meant getting him story books with lizards and other creepy crawlies in them, like “The Frog Prince.” After a while though, I noticed that my little tyke was getting more and more interested in dinosaurs, and the occasional Dinosaur book I bought him just wasn’t enough to satisfy his curiosity.
With that in mind, I did a couple of searches using the keywords “educational kids games,” and was happy to find plenty of dinosaur adventure games on the web that I knew my son would enjoy. Another benefit was that these games were age-appropriate to my son – I didn’t have to worry about them containing any content that might traumatize him. And of course, since these were free game downloads, I didn’t have to worry about all these games burning a hole in my wallet.
While these games have definitely helped my son grow in his knowledge, I have to remember to encourage him to get out of the house once in a while. With that in mind, I’m planning on taking him on a trip to the local natural history museum, so we can look at actual dinosaur bones. I’m also planning a picnic trip next week, and we’re going to go lizard hunting. You should’ve seen his face when I told him about these plans – I’ve never seen my boy so happy!
